When we analyzed the Razer Huntsman Elite back in July 2018, we exalted it as the fastest key actuation of almost any gaming keyboard we had tested, and today the Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition seems to take this first gaming keyboard’s success and transfer it into some smaller, other esports-oriented formats.

The best objective of this Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition would be to pack the quickest and most reliable computer keyboard in a package small enough to easily continue to, tournaments. This is something which Razer certainly pulled off by some smart design function, but the cost might be somewhat hard to swallow.

At $129, this keyboard is somewhat pricey, especially for a wired tenkeyless computer keyboard, but that only includes the flagship territory. It is actually a little less costly than SteelSeries’ flagship tenkeyless, the Apex Pro TKL, that will set you back $179. But, SteelSeries’ computer keyboard includes user-adjustable switches, and also a small OLED display, two things Razer’s keyboard certainly does not have.

At the end of the day, however, that the Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition is designed first and foremost with esports in your mind. This means stripping back some additional deflecting attributes and doubling down where it counts: sheer performance.

Among the first things, you’ll notice about the Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition is the fact that it is small. Really small. There is perhaps half an inch of chassis on each side of the keyboard following the finish of the key, which when coupled with all the unassuming black aluminium construct signifies it equally blends into its environment and appears exceptionally classy.

The Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition is a tenkeyless computer keyboard, meaning it does not have a Numpad, which might put spreadsheet addicts into a frenzy, but actually, it is a design choice which is reasonable for your target audience here.

Among the trendiest design elements here is the removable cable. Instead of having a cable which may get jostled around in transit or during especially erratic gaming sessions, then the cable is only detachable. On the back of the computer keyboard on the left-hand side, there is a recessed USB-C port, in which you join a USB-C into USB-A cable which will run to a PC.

But don’t choose the removable cable to imply this really is a wireless device: it is not. More significant than any other subset, esports gamers care about accuracy and reliability, each of which come bundled together with all the freedom that wireless peripherals offer.

Obviously, as this is a Razer merchandise, the Huntsman Tournament Edition is fully packed with RGB lighting. Through time, Razer Chroma has been becoming more customizable and visually attractive. And combined with the minimum chassis design of this Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition, it looks just brilliant. After messing up with the Synapse software, which is the way you’ll personalize all of the light and macros, we left it on the default wheel effect simply to stare at all of the pretty colours. We did it to the aesthetic, like Razer.

Obviously, as a device targeted mostly at esports players, functionality is all that matters. The Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition uses a brand new iteration of the optomechanical switches within the Razer Huntsman Elite, which ought to come as a surprise to about no one. When you press one of these keys, they disrupt a laser beneath the change, triggering the keypress instantly, with pretty much no latency.

It follows that regardless of how expert you are, you need to have the ability to observe some improvement in just how fast this gaming keyboard is.

Among the additional benefits, a switch in this way offers is that there are not any moving parts, so it should last considerably longer. Esports players are generally extremely hard in their own hardware, so it is perfect to understand that this keyboard can stand up to even the most demanding abuse. Razer rates it in 100 million keystrokes. We clearly do not have enough time to put that claim to the test, but when it is true, this keyboard should last years, even to the most avid gamers out there.

If you are an esports player looking for a gaming keyboard that is fast, dependable and portable, you indeed can not go wrong here.

The Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition might appear a little pricey for what is essentially a barebones gaming keyboard on face value. However, the quick key switches, removable cable and travel-friendly design can propel this keyboard to a must-have peripheral to get aspiring pro gamers.

And, while we’re certainly not pro players, we can not help but be in awe of the design of the thing. It is an excellent keyboard to look at and might be well worth picking up even if you simply need a straightforward gaming keyboard for your desk in your home. At least, if you are willing to pay.
